OUR CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE :

During last one hundred year and particularly during post-independent period there have been several developments both in respect of building up of Trade Unions and Federations of Employees & Workers and movements under the banner of said Organisations. Also during this period, the Working Class in the Country got a new partner from the Central Govt. employees’ front. More or less at the same time the Central Govt. employees witnessed birth of Confederation of Central Govt. Employees & Workers at the apex level and Co-Ordination Committee of Central Govt. Employees & Workers Unions & Associations in West Bengal. With the passage of time, State Committees of Confederation, commonly known as State Co-ordination Committees were formed primarily with the object of implementation of programmes of the Confederation. However, the Co-Ordination Committee in our State from the very beginning particularly with 1960 Strike of Central Govt. Employees & Workers during its eventful existence for fifty-seven year has left its marks in the trade union and democratic movement, either singly or collectively with others.  The salient features which make it different from other similar Organisations particularly within the organisational structure of Confederation are its acceptability as leadership organisation at the grass-root level spreading across the length and breadth of the State of West Bengal. There are functioning Co-Ordination Committees affiliated to the state Committee at the level of districts, sub-divisions besides about one hundred Unions and Associations. Even there are affiliates which are not affiliated to the Confederation through respective federations. The fighting role of this Co-Ordination Committee is manifested not only by its organisational strength to organise movements on the streets but the solidarity it is capable to show towards other section of Central Govt. Employees movement outside the structure of Confederation. Present generation of leadership of Co-Ordination Committee proudly recalls the revolutionary character of the leadership who could give a call for collection of one Days Salary from the membership of affiliated Unions/Associations for giving financial assistance to the 31 Defence Workers whose services were most unceremoniously terminated under infamous Art.311 of the Constitution of India. Another unique feature is its responsive role to social requirement of providing financial assistance be it   the victims of natural calamities or educational assistance to the meritorious but needy students, crossing the barriers of caste, creed and religion.
